Call Me, Doctor Julie.

Well, miracles do happen.

It's a Monday, and the receptionist is here.  Hallelujah!  This means I don't have to break the on-call receptionist at 10 am, and I can take my morning walk.  The only problem is, this receptionist will transfer all calls to either me or the other records clerk.  She doesn't like like dealing with the public.  Perhaps, that is why she is hardly ever here, but WHY is she still hear?  That is the question.  Her birthday is this week.  She has been working here for 34 years.  Everyone is hoping for a retirement announcement--believe me, EVERYONE is.

Anyway, I just got off the phone with a concerned parent.  Apparently, this person thought I was a probation officer.  I did not clue him in that I wasn't.  I just sat there and listened to him ramble away about his troubled son.  This isn't the first time I've gotten calls from distraught parents who just need someone to listen to.  I sometimes feel uncomfortable because they tell me more information than I need to know, but when you hear the desperation in someone's voice, of helplessness and worry, you know better not to cut them off.  You have to let them speak.  I was sympathetic to what he was saying.  If I was in the same situation I would want someone to listen too.  I imagine turning your son in to the authorities is not an easy thing to do.  If you know it's the only way you can help your child, it has to do be done.  Any responsible parent will tell you this.  Before I transferred the call to the probation officer, he thanked me for listening, saying that he hasn't found anyone yet that could do that for him.  Sad, isn't it?   I know I'm a good listener.  I've been told this many times.  I should have gone to college and studied to be a psychiatrist damn it.  I could have been discovered by Oprah and had my own T.V. show now.  Damn.  This phone call conversation is going to stay with me awhile.  At least I know I "helped" someone today, and that makes me happy.

My left eye is crying.  It's been crying since last night.  Watching Extreme Makeover Home Edition on the T.V. did not help either.  The episode was about this returned Marine vet who lost a leg, and lived in a very old home, raising 4 children by himself ages 9 to 4.  Between that and switching the channel to the Grammys last night, I could not stop crying.  I didn't even recognize my girl, Nelly Furtado

OMG girl, PLEASE go back on being a brunette!  And what is going on with that blue thing you wore last night!!  I didn't recognize her--she looked old in that outfit.  I caught a glimpse of Tina Turner.  Oh gosh...  Tight silver pants was not a good fashion choice.  I cringed, it was hard to see.  It was great to see Ringo Starr however--of course he was wearing dark glasses, but he looked really good.

Anyway, I woke up with my left eye half way shut with all this yellow gook.  Lovely.  It's red, and looks like I've been crying.  Waa waa...  My boss lady thinks that I may have pink eye.  Oh, well that is just lovely, huh?  I've had this before and never got full blown pink eye before, I think I just may have caught a cold in my eye or something when I went to the park Saturday, and yesterday afternoon.

This weekend was nice..  My sister-inlaw came down on Friday night, and we had a nice visit with her and her son.  She gave me more ideas on Avon selling.  By the way, the few people that have purchased that Anew dermoabrasion creme that Avon has been advertising on T.V. really like the stuff, and say it does work.  I sold my demo to a friend at work, and now I'm tempting to order one for myself.

Okay...here is my shameless plug:  www.youravon.com/julielangley

We finally got Erik Estrada framed, but Lizzy didn't like the pictures we took, so they are not posted.  She has to be in the "mood" for it.  You may just get a picture of just the picture, sans Lizzy.  It will happen either way...  I know you have all been waiting with anticipation... LOL..  She wants me to get more autograph pictures from old sitcoms actors.  John Stamos is next.  She had a huge crush on him when she was younger.  What do you think my chances are on getting an autograph picture of Mr. Stamos?  I think he is a little too busy and still in that ER show---I think he plays a doctor?  He isn't selling timeshares yet, so he may not have the time.

Have a pleasant Monday!

Happy Chinese New Year

I got this site from Lyn---Feel free to see what kind of "animal" you are... :)  Surprisingly, I think I'm very "horse" like.  Interesting.

Horse personality traits
Like Tigers with whom they are most compatible, Horse people can be a jumble of contradictions.

Cool but hot-blooded, hard-nosed but humble, impatient but extraordinarily tolerant, the Horse is above all defined by hard work and self-reliance.

Although Horses work well in groups, they prefer to work by themselves and exhibit extraordinary levels of energy and concentration. They are good with their hands, but can be seen happily losing themselves in accomplishing any given task.

In social settings, they are cheerful, charismatic and sometimes overly talkative as they clairvoyantly finish other's sentences in conversation. However, they are also often the first guest to depart, usually due to a feeling of becoming too "penned in". Conversely, Horses are happiest in large crowds in open spaces and enjoy the comradarie found in pressing the flesh at outdoor gatherings or concerts.

In romance, they have a tremendous need for intimacy and belonging. However, once domesticated they often feel pressured in fulfilling family obligations, as they remain at heart powerfully rebellious creatures who will not be made to feel cornered.

Travel is a favorite pasttime, and horses are known to race off to any far-flung destination at a moment's notice. As such, Horses are well suited to careers as adventurers, poets, travel writers or politicians.

Horses are most compatible with : Tiger, Dog, Sheep

Famous people born in the Year of the Horse: Clay Aiken, Davy Crockett, James Dean, Clint Eastwood, Ella Fitzgerald, Harrison Ford, Aretha Franklin, Janet Jackson, Sandra Day O'Connor, Teddy Roosevelt, Mike Tyson, Boris Yeltsin

Well, Tom Jones may perhaps re-think his hairy chest investment.  Not all women like "hairy men."  Thank you all for your imput.  :)

It's Friday!  Yipppee!  Yay!!

Today my sister-inlaw, Becky and her son Will will be coming over to visit.  She was coming next weekend, but other things came up.  I've stocked up on Diet Pepsi and popcorn Becky, so hurry on down.  I'll be making chocolate chip cookies too...just promise not to look at the dust.  :)

It's Spring like outside, but still there is that cold nip in the air that catches you by surprise.  Now, did the ground hog see his shadow or what?  For some reason, I never got the news on that one.

Speaking of news, there is so much bad news on the T.V. and around here locally--violent stuff/tragic/natural disasters going on.  I'm afraid what I will hear next.  Hopefully it won't be anything else on Britney.  That poor girl is not "there".  With the media attention she gets, you would think she was running for president or something.  Very sad.

I had a disturbing dream the night before.  I had a dream of cars and rising water again.  I cannot tell you how I hate having dreams like those.  A phone was involved in it too--and of course I was unable to dial the number in the dream.  It all has to do with unneeded stress and anxiety-I know, but I hate having those dreams!  They make me wake up really freaked!  The have replaced my dreams of bulls chasing me however--that is good anyway.

Next week is Valentines week..  I'm really looking forward to it.  :)  A day without the kids...  Thank God!  LOL..  Have a great Friday!!

Chest Hair

I just read something a little disturbing.

Tom Jones just insured his chest hair for 7 million.

Wha?

Read all about it here:  http://news.aol.com/entertainment/music/music-news-story/ar/_a/singers-chest-hair-insured-for-millions/20080206104209990001

I don't get it.

Tom Jones must have some Portuguese in him.  That is all I'm going to say about this picture..  LOL

I don't get it.  With the rage of hair wax removal of chests, why is Tom insuring his chest hair?  Is he afraid someone will come and wax him unexpectedly while he sleeps?  7 million?!  Gee...  If I had 7 million to spare, I think I could think of better uses.  Ummm...  Perhaps feed and clothe the hungry?  Umm..donate some millions to orphan children?  I dunno...

I'm taking a poll this morning.  Feel free to participate.  Some of you prefer hairy chests.  Hairy or Not Hairy, what do you prefer?  Chest hair doesn't bother me, but hairy butts do.  Leave a comment and let me know.  Thanks.

Sugar and Spice and Everything "Nice"

It's official!

Don't laugh, Lyn...

I'm nice too...  :)  Thank you Joann for including me in your list of nice people!

Last night, during dinner, Lizzy and I were talking about Erik Estrada (who else?!).  She was in her pajamas and wasn't in the mood for pictures (she has to be in the mood, and she has to wear makeup for all pictures).  She wants to get the picture framed.  She is going to hang it up near her framed Elton John poster.  Apparently, her boyfriend, Daniel (the one I think looks like Estrada) told his mom about the whole story and thought the story was pretty hilarious.  She must think I'm nuts.  Oh well, she won't be the first to think that way.  I went online looking to see if I could find the Halloween episode of CHiPS where Ponch helps that woman with the delivery of the baby.  I did find one episode on Youtube, but I don't think it's the same one.  They do sell Season 1 & 2 of the entire CHiPS series at Amazon, but I'm not quite sure which season it was on.  Oh well, I may have to buy both, huh?

Good news in the ghetto:  The mental health office that is downstairs lost it's lease!  Yay!  Apparently, the creepy people that work in the IRS Office were complaining about the mental health clients that leave their backbacks and sleeping bags in the hallways.  This is good news because now our office can take over that much needed space, and we get more parking, and less mental health patients sleeping in the parking lot.  Sad, I know.

No word about the receptionist retiring yet, but we are keeping our fingers crossed on that one.

Thanks Missie for the following tag!

Testing..this is only a test.

Whew...  It has been a very busy Tuesday, and it isn't even over yet...

After I made sure my two younger kids were dressed and fed, I headed out the door for a test for the school district.  I was way off on my time calculations, and I barely made it there for testing on time.  Being stuck in bumper to bumper traffic on the highway, watching the minutes fly by while sitting in the car is not fun.  It's a little nerve racking.

When I actually got the parking lot of the building where the test was being held, I had a total of 3 minutes to get out of the car and rush inside.  Of course there was no parking.  After driving around the parking lot, I spotted this one lady who was S L O W L Y walking to her car.  I waited patiently in the car, as she S L O W L Y went through her purse to get her keys, and then she proceeded to S L O W L Y get inside her car...  By the time this woman pulled out of the parking space, and it was 9:01 am.  I rushed out of the car, and ran in my black boots into the building where I panted my way into the building.  I have tested for county offices before, and there are really strict rules about arriving on time for tests, so I was ready to be told it was too late.  Luckily, it wasn't one of those tests.  The test didn't even start until 9:30 because of more stragglers coming in late, or misplaced people.  The proctor was very nice; may be a little too nice.  Nice to a point that I found annoying sometimes...do you know what I mean?  She spoke in a very soft tone, and wasn't frazzled a bit when she had to explain to the misplaced woman that we weren't taking the food service test that morning.  She reminded me of my high school typist teacher, Ms. Wilcox.  Fellow classmates would call me Julie Wilcox for a reason.  They all thought I was the teacher's pet for some odd reason.

Last Saturday I also took a test.  For that test, I got there early, and had to wait in the freezing cold outside with about 15 other people for the proctor to open the door to the building.  Of course she was late, and we had to stand there in the freezing cold.  I did not blow dry my hair (of course), and I was not wearing my coat, and I was literally freezing, as well as other people.  I thought my nose was going to run and make icicles.

By the time this proctor on Saturday opened the door, she announced that she was fighting a cold, and that she was on the verge of losing her voice.  After she made this announcement she proceeded to cough for a good 5 minutes while we all stood there staring, waiting for her to finish.  It was odd, and uncomfortable to watch this poor lady coughing so long in a tissue.  Anyway, she had another helper with her who didn't speak a word.  You would think this other woman would help the proctor speak, but, not a word.  Very odd.  Anyway, before the test started, the proctor went on and on and told everyone:

"Please do not turn to the test booklet until I say so."

She said this over and over to a point where it was almost humorous.  Well, wouldn't you know it, but the girl sitting right to the left of her opens the damn test booklet.  I couldn't believe it.  I was in shock.  Didn't this girl HEAR the proctor enough times to just leave the test booklet alone?!  She was thrown out of the test.  I couldn't believe it.

I don't want to come across mean or anything, but some of the people I've sat with, taking all these tests-they are missing a few brain cells.  It is a wonder  how they were able to fill out their applications.  If I hear someone ask one more time how to fill in the bubbles of their scan sheet to correspond with their social security number, I am going to scream.  What is even more scary, is I wonder what these people think about me.  Does that proctor still remember me from that test I took just 3 months ago?  I am very thankful I have my current job.

Friday

Thank you Lisa Jo for the cute graphic.. :)

Well, I feel crappy, but at least it's Friday!

I'm leaving early today.  I have to stock up on Diet Pepsi--my sister-inlaw Becky is coming for a visit!  :)

It's been a looong...draining week...  May be it's just the lousy weather, or may be it's driving in the pouring rain at night after work almost every day this week.  Or may be it's just the kids being especially bratty more than usual.  I don't know--I'm just drained.  Energy level is at like, 2.

I can't believe it's February already.  My son Andrew is going on a field trip today to visit the high school he is due to attend in the Fall.  I am not quite sure if he'll be going to that high school.  It's my old high school, but there is a high school just down the street from our home.  Depending on where I work next Fall, will determine on which school he will go to.  He doesn't want to away from his friends--very understandable, BUT, going to school in one city and living in another is not fun either.  IF I do get a job in the city I live in by September it won't be a question of where he'll be attending.

Nicholas can start kindergarten in the Fall too.  His birthday falls a month before the cut off date.  That's another dilemma.  Having him go to school here or there.  If he goes to school there he'll be wearing a uniform.  All public schools in the district we live in require uniforms.

 Speaking of uniforms...

I did get a call for an interview for a position I applied and tested for, but I turned it down.  The position was for Sheriff's Technician.  I would be working shift work, starting nights, and I'd have to wear a uniform.  Eeew.  Me in a Sheriff's uniform?!  Yuck.  No thanks.  I used to work shift work once--it completely throws you off, and you are a zombie during the day.  Moms just can't sleep during the day--at least I can't.  I'd only see my children perhaps a few hours of their wake time--who knows when I'd see husband. It paid well, but no thanks...money isn't everything.

I have a test for another job tomorrow morning... Wish me luck.  I also have another test next week to work for the school district.  I'm liking the idea of working only 10 months a year.  I'm pretty spoiled actually where I am now.  My employers know this.  They want me to stay, and be fat and happy and stay in the ghetto FOREVER.  NO ONE wants to do my job, because NO ONE knows what I do; it's called:  Job Security.  I don't think I'm ever going to find another employer quite like this one..but the gas money, the commute...urrg..  It's getting to me I'm afraid.  Ideally, I would like to win the lottery and just work part time so I can be home more with the kids.  Hopefully husband's business will just go sooo well it can be a possibility..but health insurance alone is so valuable where I am now.

Okay, my head is started to hurt.  I'm thinking too much on the things I need to do when I get home already.  Have a great weekend!!!
