I went grocery shopping this morning, but got to see the last 15 minutes of this game. It was Portugal 0, England 0....in overtime; penalty kick time...
At the end, it was Portugal 3, England 1... I'm screaming each time the ball is kicked in the goal. My husband, who isn't a soccer (futebol) fan at all---he likes American football and NASCAR, is sitting there in disbelief, I'm sure. He has never seen me excited for any sporting event whatsoever. He continues to sit there shaking his head, while he watches the Portuguese team embrace eachother, kissing, and running hand and hand through the field, while the English team, some of them are so depressed, are sitting on the field in tears, balling their eyes out... I try to explain to him that soccer is a passionate sport! It is like a religion to some of these players... He just doesn't get it... Too emotional for him.. Oh well...
This is a major day for Portuguese soccer.. It has been 40 years since they've reached the semi finals of the World Cup, and that means a lot! I am sure there will be much celebrating until the wee hours of the morning in every Portuguese city town in the world tonight. I'm so happy they won.... :)
