Kill These Christmas Songs/Weekend Assign. #142

Weekend Assignment #142: Your Christmas/Holiday gift is an ability to expunge one highly annoying yet popular Christmas/Holiday song from the history of the world. Which one is it?

Extra Credit: Fruitcake: Ever actually eat any?

I enjoy hearing Christmas music during the holiday season, but there is one in particular that I just can't stand.  It's The Twelve Days of Christmas.  It doesn't matter who or what choir is singing it, I just can't stand this song.  It is too long, too repetitive, and it just drives me crazy whenever I hear it.  It is usually sung by a choir, and for some reason, it reminds me of that children's song.. "I know an old lady who swallowed a fly..." Which is a song I find very disturbing.. "I don't know why she swallowed a fly... I guess she'll die.."  How lovely.  Anyway... This song reminds me of the 12 Days of Christmas for some reason..  Songs should be nice and sweet.  I would rather hear Berl Ives, that fat snowman sing "Have A Holly Jolly Christmas" than the following song...

Extra Credit:  Yes, I have had fruitcake.  Last time I had a piece I found a grey hair stuck in a cherry, and I've vowed never to eat a piece of fruitcake ever again.

Here it is for you to "enjoy."  Have a good weekend people!

Play Music ! On the first day of Christmas,
my true love sent to me
A partridge in a pear tree.

On the second day of Christmas,
my true love sent to me
Two turtle doves,
And a partridge in a pear tree.

On the third day of Christmas,
my true love sent to me
Three French hens,
Two turtle doves,
And a partridge in a pear tree.

On the fourth day of Christmas,
my true love sent to me
Four calling birds,
Three French hens,
Two turtle doves,
And a partridge in a pear tree.

On the fifth day of Christmas,
my true love sent to me
Five golden rings,
Four calling birds,
Three French hens,
Two turtle doves,
And a partridge in a pear tree.

On the sixth day of Christmas,
my true love sent to me
Six geese a-laying,
Five golden rings,
Four calling birds,
Three French hens,
Two turtle doves,
And a partridge in a pear tree.

On the seventh day of Christmas,
my true love sent to me
Seven swans a-swimming,
Six geese a-laying,
Five golden rings,
Four calling birds,
Three French hens,
Two turtle doves,
And a partridge in a pear tree.

On the eighth day of Christmas,
my true love sent to me
Eight maids a-milking,
Seven swans a-swimming,
Six geese a-laying,
Five golden rings,
Four calling birds,
Three French hens,
Two turtle doves,
And a partridge in a pear tree.

On the ninth day of Christmas,
my true love sent to me
Nine ladies dancing,
Eight maids a-milking,
Seven swans a-swimming,
Six geese a-laying,
Five golden rings,
Four calling birds,
Three French hens,
Two turtle doves,
And a partridge in a pear tree.

On the tenth day of Christmas,
my true love sent to me
Ten lords a-leaping,
Nine ladies dancing,
Eight maids a-milking,
Seven swans a-swimming,
Six geese a-laying,
Five golden rings,
Four calling birds,
Three French hens,
Two turtle doves,
And a partridge in a pear tree.

On the eleventh day of Christmas,
my true love sent to me
Eleven pipers piping,
Ten lords a-leaping,
Nine ladies dancing,
Eight maids a-milking,
Seven swans a-swimming,
Six geese a-laying,
Five golden rings,
Four calling birds,
Three French hens,
Two turtle doves,
And a partridge in a pear tree.

On the twelfth day of Christmas,
my true love sent to me
Twelve drummers drumming,
Eleven pipers piping,
Ten lords a-leaping,
Nine ladies dancing,
Eight maids a-milking,
Seven swans a-swimming,
Six geese a-laying,
Five golden rings,
Four calling birds,
Three French hens,
Two turtle doves,
And a partridge in a pear tree!

I would love to know that the rest of my days could be free of "The Little Drummer Boy." Arumpapumpum. "Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer" I could also do without. Okay, let's throw in "Silent Night," too. Gee, I didn't realize how much those songs truly bugged me until you brought up this question!

Good choice for Worst Ever Christmas Song. Me, I'd banish anything and everything sung by Alvin and the Chipmunks. Or barked by dogs. That sucks too.

(And ditto on the hair: Ewwwww.)

OH boy can I agree with your choice here! My middle sister recently found a HARD ROCK version of this song, and no, it does not help it any. Good choice!

Hey Coelha,  I am starting to find AOL blogs that have a focus on poetry. I am going to update this and touch up this blog this week with a nice background. I look forward to coming back to your blog and the other ones I find. Poetry is one of the most surreal places we can discover. If you know of anyone who blogs poetry could you send them an email or have them post a link at the blog. Please stop by and see what category you best fit it.

Best Regards, Raven

I pretty much hate that song, too. I think it dates back to a traumatic recital in elementary school. I much prefer the Bob and Doug McKenzie version of the song. "On the first day of Christmas, my true love gave to me...a beer." Still, it's not the worst Christmas song ever...
