County Training

Every two years, all county employees have to take mandatory sexual harrassment training.  Just when I thought I didn't have to do it this year, my boss lady announced that she had opened up a class "just for you!" next month.  Of course, it's not just for me.  Apparently there are 70 other employees in this department that thought they could "get away" and be unoticed from taking the class.  Wow, joy! 

I'm still trying to "recover" from a training class I had to take years ago.  It wasn't exactly a sexual harrassment class, but an AIDS Awarness class that made me feel a tad sexually harrassed-well, may be not harrassed, but uncomfortable to say the least.  The class involved sitting in a room listening to a man who spoke of the precautions to take against being infected by the disease.  He spoke candidly, about how and his gay partner protected themselves (like I really NEED to know this for my job) and demonstrated the multiple types of sexual protection procedures.  I was in my  20's back then, and much more naive, and shy that I am today.  I wasn't the only female in the training, but lucky me  got to sit in between my Born Again Christian supervisor, and my openly gay male co-workers.  We had to take turns putting on a condom on a lifesize erect penis made of crystal.  I have never seen my supervisor's face turn in so many shades of red until that day.  I just wanted to dig a hole and fall into it. 

So, whoopee!!  Sexual Harrassment class next month, from 10 to noon...  I'm SO excited!!  Not really.  I'm just glad this week is over.  I'm feeling quite haggard this week.  I am counting the days until summer vacation together with my son.  I'm looking forward to the weekend.  Saturday I plan to do some grocery shopping, and shoe shopping for Sunday.  Sunday my mother is having a religious celebration at our church to honor her "promesa" (promise) to the Holy Spirit in honor of my father.  Yes, it's a Portuguese thang..  I hope to take some pictures so I can share.  I have so many pictures that I've promised to share and haven't yet, that I'm getting a little embarrassed.  There will be pictures...  That is my "promesa" to you..  Have a great weekend!  I highly doubt that I will have time to sit and write at all this weekend!  Ta ta for now!
