Happy Belated Mother's Day!!

Hello!  I hope the mothers out there in Jland all had a nice day!  I was too busy pretending to be lazy, that I didn't have a chance to write in an entry.  The whole crew hopped in the van in our loose fitting "fat clothes" and headed out to a Hilton brunch buffet outside of town.  We met with my siblings and their kids, and my mom (of course) and ate, and ate...and ate.  I had a few mimosas...those were quite delicious I may add.  Nicholas was on his best behavior, and besides the few eye rolls, the brunch was quite enjoyable.  We ate so much however, we didn't eat for the rest of the day.

When we got home we got a surprise call from my mother-inlaw--they were on the way down from the L.A. area!  My father-inlaw's sister unfortunately passed away yesterday.  Poor guy.  They will be spending a few days with us for the funeral.  It was an unexpected, bittersweet Mother's Day surprise.

Sunday besides doing some emergency cleaning before the inlaw arrival, I didn't do much of anything; made some cookies, and marinated a roast for tonight.  I'm still feeling a bit sore from pulling out weeds Saturday.  Finally the front yard looks presentable, and I'm sure the neighbors next door (The Stewarts-who have the immaculate front yard, and beautiful potted white roses that I am so envious of) appreciated the absence of the over grown weed.  I'm so glad we got this done before the inlaws came.  I know they don't care about that stuff; but--it's the Portagee in me--I have to have a clean house and a neat yard for company; it's who I am, and I know it is kind of annoying.  It annoys me sometimes as well; believe me.

Yes, I still remember sitting in the car in the drive way with my dad in the front seat waiting for mom to get in the car to leave for church.  Suddenly from inside we hear the vacuum cleaner looming through the house again.  Yes, mom was doing some last minute cleaning just in case the Queen and King of Portugal were in the neighborhood.  Okay; I'm not that bad; but I did get that look from hubby yesterday as he saw me carry in more cleaning products into the bathroom...

"Honey, please say you are going to stop cleaning now;  you know my mother doesn't care if the house is spotless.."

Bless my husband's heart.  He still calls me "honey" when I am truly annoying.

My daughter's ID card arrived earlier expected-it took only 1 week; not two or three like the rude DMV announced.  So...today, Lizzy is going to take the bus down here, and I'm going to meet her for her 4pm appointment to get her passport.  Okay..got the luggage--passports...  Now I have to shop for some summer/school clothes for the kids... Oh, shoes...can't forget those!

Yes--I'm slowly turning into my mother...

Happy Belated Mother's Day!!

My mom has that gene too, we call it the Psycho-German-Cleaning Gene.  It skipped me.  Thank goodness!  LOL  My grandma didn't have it either, but my great grandma... look OUT!  lol

be well,
Dawn
