This morning I came upon picketing signs marking today's "A Day Without An Immigrant" protest. The yellow signs had images of families fleeing, and still there were other green signs reading: "Prepare to Show Your Papers!"
Today there will be picketing and demonstrations against the new proposed immigration emphasizing the laws between the United States and Mexico. Have some of us forgotten where we have come from?
My mother is an immigrant, as well as was her father. Both of my father's parents were immigrants as well. I am very proud of my ancestry; it is who I am! I come from a very hardworking and determined people. Nope, my ancestry does not come from over the border in Mexico, but that isn't important. Let us not forget that America is a country of immigrants. Some of us have come here in boats, planes, and some of us have risked our lives and fled here by foot. Some of us have come here by free will, while others have fled here as refugees. Some of us had the correct documents to come here, while still others, for whatever reason, did not.
Did the people on the Mayflower possess a visa? I would like to know; I'm guessing they did not. The new immigration laws are a direct attack to ALL immigrants.
